Programme of the course: Fundaments of biochemistry: atoms and molecules, the element s in living systems, macromolecules: carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. The flux of genetic information. Principles of enzymatic biochemistry. The eucaryotic cell. The specialized cells of the nervous system: neurons and glia. Principles of neurophysiology: the resting potential, the action potential and the basis of neurotransmission. Elements of structural and functional anatomy of the nervous system; the chemical basis of behavior: basics of neuropharmacology.
